Thursday 9 May, 5:30pm: as Standing Together rallies against war in Tel Aviv, join us in Parliament Square to support them
On Thursday 9 May, Standing Together, a grassroots movement of Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel, is holding an anti-war rally in Tel Aviv, along with other pro-peace, anti-occupation groups. As UK Friends of Standing Together, and supporters of the Israeli anti-war movement, we are gathering in Parliament Square to show our solidarity with them.
5:30-6:30pm, Parliament Square, SW1. Meet by the Millicent Fawcett statue, on the west side of the square. (Statue of suffragette activist Millicent Fawcett, holding a banner reading “Courage calls to courage everywhere”.)
We’ll gather for an hour to hear short speeches and take photos and video messages to send to activists in Israel, to let them know that we stand with them in their struggle against their government’s policies of war and occupation.
Protests against Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government have been growing, with the families of hostages held in Gaza demanding a ceasefire agreement to secure their release. Demonstrators have also been demanding the ousting of the government, and new elections.
We believe struggles for peace and equality from within Israeli society itself are an essential element in winning a just and democratic future in the region. Standing Together mobilises Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel to build “co-resistance” to war, occupation, and racism. Please join us to support them.
Standing Together fights for a future in which both peoples living between the river and the sea, Palestinian Arabs and Israeli Jews, are free, secure, and equal. Please bring placards and banners with slogans consistent with this message.
