Standing Together needs your support

A message to supporters.

Over the last few days, the far-right in Israel has stepped up its efforts to silence us. In Haifa, the university banned our student activities until the end of the semester, and last night, at our screening of the Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony in Ra’anana, extremists violently stormed the Reform synagogue where it was being held and tried to derail the event.

But our activists screened the ceremony anyway, along with dozens of other events we organized which were attended by hundreds of people across the country who were able to mourn together, hold the pain of both Palestinians and Jews on this land, and demand a real peace. Please consider donating to support our events and actions across the country:

Top to bottom: in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa watching the Joint Memorial Ceremony on Tuesday.

Last week, when the University of Haifa decided to ban our student activities after we held a vigil for the 18,000 Palestinian children killed in Gaza, we knew we had to fight back. Our students are organized and ready to put pressure on the administration – but they need your help as we prepare to petition the court in Haifa, build public support, and put up a real fight.

Support Our Students in Haifa

Last night we saw exactly what we are fighting against. We saw the future of our country that the extreme right dreams about: violence, hopelessness, and a narrative of eternal victimhood. So we know exactly what we need to do this morning. We have to continue in full force and bigger than ever to confront the dark anti-democratic forces seeking to disrupt our work, our solidarity with one another, and our fight for another way.

We have hope because the public is behind us. Our anti-war rally in Tel Aviv on Thursday 24 April brought 10,000 people onto the streets. It was a deeply powerful event with participants and speakers from all over the country who stood up for the thousands of innocent Palestinians killed in Gaza, for the dozens of hostages who must be brought home, and for all of us who live here.

And while we’re fighting for an end to the war, an end to the occupation, and for our own society, we’re building the alternative. Join us from May 3rd through May 11th, when communities in over 20 cities around the world will come together to demand a just peace. These events, organized by Friends of Standing Together groups and partner organizations, will take place in solidarity with the “It’s Time” People’s Peace Summit in Jerusalem. “It’s Time” is an unprecedented coalition of over 60 peace and civil society organizations in Israel, which Standing Together is proud to be a senior partner in.
