Help us build support for Standing Together’s vision throughout the labour movement.

Standing Together’s Theory of Change emphasises the importance of working people uniting around shared struggles. This makes trade unions, organisations of workers, an important part of the fight for social justice.

Here in the UK, trade unions are an important site of international solidarity. If you’re active in a union, we encourage you to submit our model motion, below. If you want help promoting Standing Together’s work in your union, or to be put in contact with other Friends of Standing Together in your union/sector, please email us.

This branch notes and opposes the ongoing oppression of the Palestinian people by the Israeli government, including the destruction of Gaza, the occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and racism against the Palestinian minority within Israel.

This branch believes:

Both peoples in Israel-Palestine, Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs, are entitled to equal rights. Peace, freedom, and security for either people is only possible in the context of a political settlement that guarantees it to both.
Whilst international pressure on Israel is necessary, meaningful progress towards peace and equality requires democratic struggle on the ground, including within Israel.

This branch therefore notes and applauds the work of Standing Together, a binational social movement mobilising both Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel to take action against war, occupation, and racism, in pursuit of peace, equality, and social justice. Since 7 October 2023, Standing Together has:

Mobilised Solidarity Guards in mixed (Arab-Jewish) towns, to organise community defence against racist incitement by the far right
Organised protests and other direct actions calling for a ceasefire and hostage-release agreement in towns and cities throughout Israel
Successfully mobilised to defeat far-right settler attacks on aid convoys to Gaza
Organised an “Aid to Gaza” campaign, collecting donations of food and other essential provisions for transport to Gaza
Mobilised in support of Palestinian community protests against house demolitions in occupied East Jerusalem.

This branch further notes the work of UK Friends of Standing Together, part of the global Friends of Standing Together network, which organises in the UK to support and amplify Standing Together’s work.

To circulate material about Standing Together and UK Friends of Standing Together to members
To invite a speaker from UK Friends of Standing Together to address a future meeting
