No More Time to Waste!
An update from Standing Together, from 12 September.
We can’t wait any longer!
Since receiving the horrific news of the six hostages murdered in captivity last week by Hamas, there has been a significant shift in the level of frustration, anger, and pain within Israeli society. We have been protesting daily, together with hundreds of thousands of people across the country demanding a deal that will bring the hostages home and stop the war. The number of people on the streets demanding a deal, supported by recent polling data, indicates that a majority of Israelis support a deal. The government, however, is opposing the will and interests of the majority. By delaying a deal for far too long, prioritizing their extremist right wing agenda and clinging on to power, the government continues to act in opposition to the interest of both Jews and Palestinians who have been urging for the ongoing horror to end.
The current situation in the region is a complete disaster. Mass killings in Gaza are ongoing, the West Bank is still being raided by the Israeli army, and the death toll keeps rising. Meanwhile, the families of hostages are slowly losing hope that they will ever see their loved ones alive again. Only a deal that ensures a permanent ceasefire and hostage release can end this horror!
Where there is struggle, there is hope. Phase two of our Gaza Aid Campaign is still on the go with hundreds of volunteers coming to the storage units to help pack and prepare the aid to be transported to Gaza. During these grim times, Palestinians and Jews in Israel are coming together in solidarity, fighting against the policies of starvation and collective punishment in Gaza, and building hope. We still need all the help we can get to cover the high logistical costs of this operation.
