Netanyahu is sabotaging the ceasefire

An update from Standing Together.

This is insane. We are watching live as our government, aided by Trump, works to collapse the ceasefire deal and strengthen the extreme right’s delusional vision of ethnic cleansing. Trump, instead of saving the hostages, is saving Netanyahu and his coalition. With each promise to forcefully displace 2 million Palestinians or to start up the war again if every hostage is not released on Saturday (something that is not included in the ceasefire deal), they are playing with all of our lives. Threats and ultimatums will not release the hostages.

Netanyahu and his far-right allies want to take us all down with him. But we refuse. We refuse to be pawns in a political game or sacrifice ourselves for the far-right vision of ethnic cleansing and settlement. We are fighting delusional, dangerous forces every day.

Thousands of you signed our petition to Congress against Trump’s plan for Gaza – thank you! If you haven’t already, add your name and share it with friends!

We’re protesting every day to keep pressure on our leaders so they know that a clear majority (70 percent, according to Channel 12 News) will not settle for less than a full deal which brings back every hostage and permanently ends the war on Gaza. Help us keep up our efforts by pledging a monthly donation and become a Friend of Standing Together, our global community of supporters, and get access to exclusive workshops, webinars, and content.

On Sunday, we watched in horror as the two Palestinian owners of East Jerusalem’s Educational Bookshop – an iconic bookstore and cultural hub – were unjustly arrested and had several books confiscated, in yet another case of political persecution of Palestinians. These are political arrests, and we won’t stand for it. If you’d like to show support for the store, here are some ways to help:

Buy a Book For Yourself
Buy a Gift Card for Standing Together’s Purple Houses

Purchasing a gift card directly supports the bookstore, and helps our community hubs build up their libraries, which serve as a community resource. Email the gift card to info@standing-together.org and let us know that it’s for the Purple House Library. If you have a book you recommend that the Educational Bookshop carries, let us know!

On top of all this, in the last few weeks, nine people were murdered in three days. Six of them were killed in less than 24 hours. This didn’t happen in the West Bank or in Gaza; it happened in the Arab-Palestinian community in Israel. Criminal violence in Arab towns has soared since Itamar Ben-Gvir took over the police. For him, it’s an “Arab problem,” and he is fine watching murders happen again and again and again.

But we’re not. Last week, hundreds of us, Jews and Arabs, stood in solidarity against violence and the police’s inaction in the city of Umm al-Fahm. On Thursday, we’ll bring our fight to the city of Nazareth. We won’t stop until we see real change in our government’s deliberate and discriminatory policy.

We refuse to accept this dark reality of crime and violence in Arab communities. We refuse to accept political arrests of Palestinians. We refuse to accept our government’s attempts to drag us into a forever war. We’re in a critical period, but we’re not backing down. Thank you for being here with us.
