“Longstanding institutionalised racism that discriminates against Arab citizens”

The killing of four Arab-Palestinian women by an Iranian missile exposes the deep inequalities in Israeli society.

On 15 June, four women from the Khatib family were killed when an Iranian missile hit their home in Tamra, northern Israel.

Arab communities have been systematically underfunded by the Israeli state.

There are no public bomb shelters in Tamra.

Standing Together’s national co-director Alon-Lee Green said: “The story of the killing of the Khatib family from Tamra is a story of racism. Yes, the missile that hit their house was Iranian, but the reason there isn’t even a single shelter in Tamra, a city of 35,000 residents, is plain Israeli racism. Long-standing institutionalised racism that discriminates against every Arab citizen. Two million citizens and no shelters. And the government? Racing towards a war of annihilation [in Gaza].”
