Join the UK Friends of the Parents Circle-Families Forum for an evening of film and dialogue. We will hear from bereaved Palestinian father Bassam Aramin and bereaved Israeli mother Elana Kaminka, who, despite profound loss, have both chosen a courageous path: transforming their pain into a force for peace, dialogue, and reconciliation.
The evening will begin with a screening of Rami and Bassam: Apeirogon, a filmed stage adaptation of Colum McCann's award-winning novel, based on the real-life stories of bereaved Palestinian and Israeli fathers Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan, who forge an unlikely friendship following the loss of their daughters. Watch the trailer here.
We will then hear directly from Bassam, whose story lies at the heart of Apeirogon, and Elana. Both have experienced unimaginable loss: Bassam's ten-year-old daughter, Abir, was killed by an Israeli border policeman outside her school, while Elana's twenty-year-old son, Yannai, was killed by Hamas on 7 October 2023. Yet both have chosen to pursue dialogue across divides, recognise the humanity of the 'other', and work towards a more peaceful future. The discussion will include an audience Q&A.
