UK Friends of Standing Together

Arguing for peace, solidarity, and co-resistance at Green Party conference

Despite a ban on Standing Together and Friends of Standing Together from Green Party spaces, our supporters organised an unofficial fringe meeting with two Palestinian speakers which offered a different model for solidarity.

Sabreen Msarwi is a former member of the Standing Together leadership, now based in London. When working as a teacher in Israel, she was victimised for attending a Nakba Day demonstration. An international campaign helped her keep her job.

Tareq Al-Qazzaz, originally from Gaza and now living in London, recently undertook a fundraising bike ride to raise money for families in Gaza, as well as Standing Together.

They were joined by speakers from the FoST supporters' group in the Green Party, including Brighton & Hove councillor Mark Strong, as well as activists from Brighton FoST.

The meeting discussed how our support — both our political solidarity and practical support including fundraising — can make a difference to Standing Together's efforts on the ground.
